Green Food

As we learn the ways of sustainable eating with concepts like Locavore,  Slow Food100 Mile Die and Safe Food, we are also discovering that we have many resources here in Johor like local produce at our wet markets, night markets, farmers markets and green markets. We are discovering the importance of knowing the farmers who provide us with food and learning as much as we can about the problems of the agricultural industry and rewarding the retailers who are going the extra mile to provide us with better choices.

Do it Yourself

The Wealth We Make Ourselves

Doing-it-yourself, or self-provisioning, is a culture shift back to the lost arts practiced by earlier generations—gardening, woodworking, quilting, canning, preserving and sewing. People engage in these activities because they enjoy them and also, producing artisanal jams, pickles, soap, and home furnishings yields better-quality products or products that are not easily available and makes pricey items affordable. Often DIY requires involvement in a community to learn and share these lost arts.

Community Supported Agriculture

You + Farmer + Handshake = CSA

WHAT IS IT?
CSAs generally focus on the production of high quality foods for a local community, often using organic or biodynamic farming methods, and a shared risk membership–marketing structure. This kind of farming operates with a much greater degree of involvement of consumers and other stakeholders than usual — resulting in a stronger consumer-producer relationship.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
Consumers buy "shares" in a farm's harvest in advance. The farmer commits to supply organic and safe food for the consumers, usually on a weekly basis, at an agreed price, quantity and variety.

HISTORY
CSA began in the early 1960s in Germany, Switzerland and Japan as a response to concerns about food safety and the urbanization of agricultural land. In the 1960s groups of consumers and farmers in Europe formed cooperative partnerships to fund farming and pay the full costs of ecologically sound and socially equitable agriculture.
